Course description
Mechanical drawing is a common language for mechanical systems. It is necessary to be able to accurately communicate the design intent with others through the drawings. In Engineering of Machine Design 1, students will learn the rules of JIS-compliant mechanical drafting, and students will be able to understand the mechanical drafting accurately and draw the basic shape as an accurate mechanical drafting. In this lecture, as a further application, detailed parts drawings and assembly drawings will be created with reference to the actual "screw type jack device" which is an actual mechanical system.
Purpose of class
The goal is to achieve the following three points for the shaft system, bearings, and transmission devices, which are important mechanical elements in mechanical design.
(1) To be able to understand the principle of each machine element and be able to give a brief explanation about its function.
(2) To be able to calcurate related to the application of each machine element.
(3) To be able to draw basic mechanical drawings of each machine element.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to understand the principle of each machine element and be able to give a brief explanation about its function.
  2. To be able to calcurate related to the application of each machine element.
  3. To be able to draw basic mechanical drawings of each machine element.

Evaluation method and criteria
Submissions related to basic calculation are evaluated at 40%, submissions related to drafting are evaluated at 60%, and 60% or more are passed.
60% is a level at which an outline can be explained and basic calculations can be performed for each machine element, and basic drawing can be performed.

Textbooks and reference materials
・ Textbook: "Mechanical drawing for beginners 4th edition" Ikuzo Uematsu and Yoshiaki Takaya, Morikita Publishing Co., Ltd.
Prerequisites
It is strongly recommended that students take "Engineering of Machine Design 1" and earn credits.

In addition, it is desirable to take the following classes. "Mechanics of Materials 1", "Machine elements", "Material science".
Office hours and How to contact professors for questions
  • Questions will be accepted during the lunch break on Wednesday or after the lecture. If you wish to have a lunch break, make an appointment by e-mail in advance or after a lecture on measurement engineering for the second period. I get questions by e-mail, but since it is difficult to answer by e-mail for drafting, I basically ask questions by face to face.
