1 Freshman lab seminar I
Students will participate in a small group meeting (seminar) organized by the supervisor, listening to the talks on cutting
edge technologies given by the supervisor and senior students in the laboratory and trying to understand the content of the
presentation. During the meeting, students will take notes and summarize what they cannot understand, which can be used to
clarify the ambiguous matters. Also, students will consult reference papers and books in a self-directed manner and try to
understand the importance of research activities in the laboratory. Through these activities, students will nurture the competency
of self-directed learning. Discussions in the laboratory meeting will also lead to the fostering of communication skills and
the creative mindset needed for the advanced researches.
The purposes of this course are to understand what kind of research the laboratory is conducting, and to acquire how to do
research through discussions in the laboratory meeting.

Evaluation method and criteria
More than 60% of the total score is needed for getting the course credit. The details will be explained by the supervisor.
"Daily activities" will be evaluated by the supervisor.
"Presentation in meeting" will be evaluated by the supervisor.
"Presentation at the end of the semester" will be evaluated by the supervisor and the reviewers.
