Course description
Acquiring deep knowledge and skills in mechanical design and the manufacturing process is the fundamentals of any industry field. In this course, students will seamlessly learn the process from the design to the manufacturing process of mechanical systems through practical training.

◆ Important
In the machining process, SAFETY is of the most importance. Student who does NOT take the safety training conducted in the class is not allowed to take the course.

[Keywords] Mechanical drawing, JIS / ISO standards, CAD / CAM, cutting, machine tools, digital manufacturing
Purpose of class
Students can acquire the following abilities by taking this course.
(1) Understand the basics of mechanical drawing, and acquire the skills of hand-drawing and CAD.
(2) Learn how to logically write scientific documents that are indispensable for engineers and scientists.
(3) Understand the structure and machining principle of general-purpose machine tools and acquire machining skills
(4) Understand the basics of digital manufacturing in which design and manufacturing are integrated, and acquire digital manufacturing skills.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can draw with a drafter or CAD software according to JIS.
  2. Student can write scientific documents (technical reports) using logical and objective expressions
  3. Students can perform cutting with a general-purpose machine tool and explain the physical phenomena that occur during machining.
  4. Students can utilize digital manufacturing systems such as CAD / CAM / 3D scanner / numerical control machine tool (CNC processing machine).
