Advanced Biomechanics

KAMEO Yoshitaka
Course content
Biomechanics is a field that analyzes the structure and function of living organisms based on mechanics towards application to engineering, life science, and medical science. Living organisms follows the same mechanical laws as general industrial materials, but they are unique in that they autonomously form and regulate their various structures and functions. This class will involve reading the latest research papers in the field of biomechanics and discussing how to extend existing mechanical theories to better understand unique phenomena in living organisms.
Purpose of class
The purpose of this class is to provide students with an understanding of the mechanisms by which living organisms autonomously form and regulate various structures and functions from a mechanical viewpoint. In addition, students will acquire basic skills to explore the frontiers of biomechanics through discussions on future research issues and their solutions.
Goals and objectives
  1. To read and understand original papers on biomechanics.
  2. To explain the structures and functions of living organisms from a mechanical viewpoint.
  3. To discuss future research issues and their solutions in the field of biomechanics.
