Mechanical Joining Engineering

HASHIMURA Shinji
Course content
In critical design of mechanical structures, not only cost reduction but also weight reduction are demanded. In order to realize the critical design, we should use many kinds of materials such as composite materials for mechanical structures and have to assmble these parts while maintaining the safety and reliabilities.
In this class, we learn the several mechanical joining technique and especially basis of threaded fasteners in this class.
Purpose of class
Students learn a basis of mechanical joining technique. Especially the students learn bolt tightening, bolt loosening and bolt fatigue in this class in order to be able to design the critical mechanical parts and structures with bolt connections.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand and to be able to explain basic of Strength of Materials.
  2. To understand and to be able to explain mechanical joining.
  3. To understand and to be able to explain the tightening method of bolted joint and bolt loosening mechanism.
  4. To understand and to be able to explain fatigue of bolted joint.
