Ergonomics Design

HIRAO Akinari
Course content
In product design, hardware and software must be designed not only for their performance, but also for human characteristics so that they can be used safely, securely, and comfortably. In this class, students will deepen their understanding of humans and the concepts for better design through ergonomics, a complex science for making products compatible with human characteristics.
In this class, students will learn the basics of ergonomic design, and will also learn about the automobile, one of the key industries with a large global market and an industrial product that is very familiar to us as a product, and the seat, which occupies 1/3 of our lives and has increased in importance with the recent spread of remote working and automatic car driving. This presentation will introduce the concept of ergonomic design, examples of development, and future prospects for ergonomic design.
The lectures will be held on a face-to-face basis, with the possibility of online participation via simultaneous Zoom transmission. Some lectures may be viewed on-demand via video.
Purpose of class
To understand the concept of ergonomics and human characteristics, and to learn how to apply it to design.
Goals and objectives
  1. Acquire knowledge of basic physiology and psychology, and understand human characteristics.
  2. Understand the basic concepts of ergonomics.
  3. Be able to take an ergonomic approach to design.
