Course content
All life is in contact with the "environment" and there are no exceptions in this world. All life is affected by the environment in various ways, and in the case of humans, this is manifested in the form of health effects. Elucidating the causes and mechanisms by which the environment influences human health is extremely important for both academic and social reasons. In this course, students will conduct research on environmental health issues that are currently occurring in the world and present their findings.
[Notice]
(1) The lectures are online lectures using ZOOM, etc. will also be conducted.
Please note that you will need to prepare your network environment and PC environment in advance.
(2) In the case of online lecture, there may be presentations and group discussions. Please take the class in an environment where you can cope with these situations (e.g., be considerate of the students around you when speaking).
(3) We will use Google Classroom, a system similar to ScombZ, to check attendance and administer quizzes for each lecture (mid-term and final exams are yet to be determined). Google Classroom requires that students register for classes, and we will announce how to register for Google Classroom through ScombZ after regular registration. Please make sure to always check for announcements from ScombZ.
(4) There is a limit to the number of students who can take the course. Please be aware that if there are too many applicants for a course, the course may be selected by lottery, etc.
Purpose of class
Deepen understanding of ongoing environmental health issues.
Improve reading comprehension of papers by reading literature for research.
Present the results of their research to gain a multifaceted understanding of current environmental health issues in the world.
Develop the ability to generate ideas to solve actual environmental health problems based on the various information they have researched.
Develop the ability to clarify and revise the research process by discussing the research partner with others.
Goals and objectives
  1. Enable to research and summarize environmental health issues on their own.
  2. Enable to present the contents of the research to others in an easy-to-understand manner.
  3. Evaluate and discuss the presentations of others.
  4. Deeply understand the content of the research and be able to create new solutions based on the existing information.
  5. Enable to present your own ideas for solutions to others in an easy-to-understand manner.
  6. Enable to understand, evaluate, and discuss the research ideas of others.

Evaluation method and criteria
Evaluation will be based on 40% on the content of the research and 60% on the presentation, for a total of 100%. An overall score of 60% or higher is considered acceptable.
For the evaluation of the summarized research content, the evaluation will be based on an easy-to-understand summary of "background," "purpose," "methods," "results," and "discussion.
Evaluation of the presentation will also include "how to present (loudness of voice, speaking speed, and ease of listening)," "ease of understanding," "whether the content is appropriate to the purpose of the research," and "whether you can accurately answer the questions.
A presentation that accurately summarizes the required research content and includes the required content is a prerequisite for receiving a passing score of 60% or higher.
