Course description
To design a machine, one must determine structural members and their combined movement and forces by calculations based on theories in mechanical engineering. However, one must learn from the structure, function, machining, assembly methods, maintenance, etc., of machines developed by our many predecessors.
This course aims to review the rules of mechanical drawing and improve skills in drafting and modeling with 3D CAD software through practical design exercises. It also aims to acquire related knowledge, such as machine elements, machining methods, and machine materials, through designing actual machines.
Purpose of class
Acquisition of the rules of mechanical drawing specified in JIS, improvement of drafting and modeling skills, acquisition of knowledge of machine elements, machining methods, and machine materials.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand third angle projection and drawing rule of mechanical elements.
  2. To learn machining and fabrication and calculate strength.
  3. To read complicated drawings.
  4. To learn how to design a mechanical system with 3D cad and spreadsheet software.
