Energy Consumption and Global Environmental Load

NOUTOMI Makoto

TSUNODA Kazumi
Course description
There are many issues relating with environmental problems, such as consumption of fossil fuels and resources. We have to resolve these problems by introducing a certain amount of renewable energy however at the beginning of this action, we have to know the current situation of the consumption and future demand of energy and material resources. The influence of resource consumption will cause a lot of burden such as global warming, acid rain, air pollution and waste, so in order to mitigate the influence by these burdens, we should improve understanding of technology and policy relating with environment and energy matters.
Through this class, at first by understanding the current situation of energy and material resource, the massive power generation system such as thermal power generation, hydraulic power generation and nuclear power generation, will be given a detailed explanation from the aspect of technology and policy, then by clarifying the problems of these system, next-generation power generation system will be introduced such as PV, wind power, fuel cell system and biomass system.
The ultimate purpose of this course is to acquire the basic qualifications necessary for activities toward a carbon-free society as future working people and industrial people.
Purpose of class
The aim of this course is to help students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge needed to achieve a better understanding of current situation and problems related with energy and environment.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand the current situation related with energy and material resources
  2. To study and understand the method of utilization of energy resources to realize the sustainable society
