Course description
This course will provide students with the fundamental knowledge of the jet engine, which is producing huge propulsion power and becoming the source of the CO2 emission of the airplane considering the issue of global warming of these days. On the basis of thermodynamics, fluiddynamics, strength of materials and the machine dynamics, many leading-edge technologies are applied to a jet engine for the realization of high-performance and light-weight jet engine. We will explain the physical phenomenon of the jet engine, while avoiding a numerical formula as much as possible, and provide an opportunity to know various technologies applid to jet engine which are the highest peak as the manufacturing.
Purpose of class
The specific purpose of the class is to understand jet-engine for engineering, that operates at high-teperature, high pressure and high rotating speed condition as fluid machinery.
Goals and objectives
  1. To understand the principle and thermodynamics of the jet engine as the internal combustion engine
  2. To understand the operaing principle of main component such as compressor, turbine, combustion chamber, and so on. at a fluiddynamics point of view.
  3. To understand the structural strength of the jet engine that high reliability is required under severe environment at a point of view of strength of materials and the machine dynamics.
