Course description
Mechanical design is a common language for mechanical systems. It is necessary to be able to accurately communicate the design intent with others through the mechanical designs. In this class, the theme is "helical gear units", and strength design as a mechanical product is carried out, and how to apply the strength of materials, machine elements, design studies, etc. that have been taken so far to perform actual design. Understand what is being done.
Purpose of class
In this class, we will use our knowledge of strength of materials and mechanical engineering to perform actual component selection while performing specific strength calculations. Students will learn how to design and draft mechanical systems that consist of multiple parts.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand the configuration and function of the helical gear units and be able to make an assembly drawing.
  2. Using the knowledge of strength of materials, it is possible to design the strength of gears, shafts, bearings, etc. for helical gear unit.
  3. Students can fully understand the function and draw drawings.

Evaluation method and criteria
30% in the design calculation sheet, 60% in understanding the structure / function of the helical gear unit from the assembly drawing, understanding the function / standard of the machine element, and 10% in understanding the drafting method and making drawings by hand.

Pass with 60 or more. What is the passing standard of 60?

-In the helical gear unit, the necessary mechanical elements and components are not excessive or deficient, and the assembly drawing is "completed".
-Lines and symbols that clearly understand the meaning must be drawn by hand.
-From the given design conditions, the design values for calculating the strength of the gears, shafts, and bearings of the helical gear unit shall be described in the design calculation sheet.

Specific checkpoints in the design calculation sheet and assembly drawing will be explained in detail in the class.
