3 Transportation Planning
This lecture serves as an introductory course aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge in the field of transportation
planning. Throughout the course, students will gain a solid understanding of the core concepts behind four-step travel demand
models, encompassing Trip Generation, Trip Distribution, Mode Choice, and Traffic Assignment. Practical case studies will
also be presented, offering insights into significant transportation planning endeavors, including:
1.Tokyo Metropolitan Railway Network Plan: Analyzing the strategic planning behind Tokyo's vast railway network.
2.Introduction to Travel and Operation Data for Railway Service Improvement: Exploring the utilization of travel and operational
data to enhance railway services.
3.Cost-Benefit Analysis for Railway Projects - A Japanese Case Study: Delving into the application of cost-benefit analysis
in the context of Japanese railway projects.
4.Urban Development and Railway Planning - A Case Study of Tokyu Company: Examining the intersection of urban development
and railway planning through the lens of Tokyu Company's experiences.
