Course description
In this class, students will learn about materials used in construction. In particular, students will learn the basics of steel and concrete from a materials science perspective. Materials are important for building structures. We will consider how to select materials and how to use them. Students will learn about construction materials through lectures by outside instructors and discussions.
Purpose of class
Students can understand the properties of materials used as construction materials, particularly reinforcing steel and concrete.
Students can understand the deterioration mechanisms of reinforced concrete and the methods and considerations for its use.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can understand the steel manufacturing
  2. Students can understand the concrete properties
  3. Students can understand the reinforcing concrete structures
