Graduation Thesis 1

YOSHIDA Shinya
Course description
The purpose of Graduation Thesis is to develop the ability to identify and solve problems and to summarize research results by applying knowledge in mechanical engineering to address research topics. To acquire these problem-solving skills, it is essential to engage in practical research activities gradually over an adequate duration of time.
In Graduation Thesis 1, as the initial step toward acquiring advanced research and problem-solving skills, students collaborate with a professor on a research topic related to mechanical engineering. During this process, they learn how to conduct a literature survey, utilize fundamental experimental, design, and analytical techniques, and effectively summarize their research outcomes.
Purpose of class
To acquire research skills that enable students to independently explore solutions to unfamiliar problems using their specialized knowledge, the objective of Graduation Research 1 is to develop the essential skills required for conducting research. These skills include methods for literature research, basic experimental design and analysis techniques, as well as methods for summarizing and presenting research findings.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can communicate their opinion and explanation of the research result etc. Also, they can understand other person's comments or questions, and discuss with professors and other students.
  2. Student can work cooperatively with others in the process of problem solving.
  3. Students can understand the background of the problem, clarify the research purpose and focus the research subjects.
  4. Students can utilize their expert knowledge, combine the appropriate experiments and analytical methods, and propose how to solve the problem.
  5. Students can examine solutions to problems by improving experimental methods, equipment, and programs, and by analyzing the results of experiments and analyses.
  6. Students can manage their research plan and perform by the deadline.
Students acquire the skill for the topics and how to survey the information or the knowledge by using the Internet, etc.. Students have to learn continuously and autonomously.

Research Content
Highly integrated devices and systems, such as smartphones, enrich our lives and contribute to the formation of large industries. In this course (in our laboratory), we aim to research and develop smaller and smarter devices and systems, and create new knowledge and technologies that will be the seeds of new industries.
The main technologies acquired in this course (in our laboratory) include MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology, micro/nano engineering, electronic circuits, etc.
Students will develop a broad knowledge of integrated systems by being exposed to a wide range of research and development from functional materials to processing processes, equipment, devices, and systems.
