Course description
For providing an attractive product, this class provides design process and methodologies in a product planning which included a market research and needs analysis. The design process consists of UD(Universal Design) evaluation using the PPP(Product Performance Program), Kansei value creation using the Kanodo Understanding Support Process, Reverse Engineering with Functional structure analysis, QFD(Quality Function Deployment), and 3DCAD. These methodologies are learned, and applied systematically to active learning exercise as the product planning process.
Purpose of class
To acquire the capability of design and analysis for a product planning through CAE, 3DCAD, QFD, Functional Structure Analysis, Reverse Engineering, Kansei value creation, and UD evaluation.
Goals and objectives
  1. Can understand the design process is required in a product planning.
  2. Can acquire the various methodologies and tools are used by a product basic design.
  3. Can understand the system thinking as the systematic approach which uses two or more techniques synthetically.

4. Review of a functional structure and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). Browsing in machinery magazine, for example, Nikkei MONOZUKURI. And also reviewing in class book of systems engineering A. 120minutes
5. Reverse engineering (a sketch creation). Reviewing about a functional design in class book of systems engineering A. 60minutes
Creating a function structure diagram using the sketch data 120minutes
6. Derivation of the Kando quality for Kansei value creation. Reviewing the method of the discussion on BS, the KJ method, the Mind Map, etc. based on class book of systems engineering A. 60minutes
7. Derivation of the Kando quality towards Kansei value creation, and deployment to QFD. Creation of a QFD matrix. 120minutes
8. Design Review (DR) for a product basic planning. Preparing the materials for DR. 120minutes
9. Making final product planning materials (overall plan): team activities. Summarizing the idea and sketch towards new product development. 120minutes

Evaluation method and criteria
Carrying out comprehensive evaluation using Design Reviews (Universal Design(15%), QFD(15%), Final presentation(30%)) and individual reports (3DCAD modeling(20%), CAE(20%)). If in the group and the individual reports, the product proposal for subject's contents is described via systematic approach through understanding lecture explanation until basic planning process of product, those reports will be evaluated as 80%.
