Course description
This class presents recent research topics in the fields of electronic systems. The research fields include electronic devices, circuits, LSI, AI and related hardware, signal processing, control theory, nonlinear phenomenon, speech and language processing and machine learning, and astrophysics.

Professors in Department of Electronic Information Systems will serve the classes about recent trends in their research fields. Classes of each professor basically consist of a lecture and an exercise (two weeks). Follow the professors’ instruction about their assignments, reports, and discussions.
Purpose of class
This class is an English course to study the recent topics in the field of electronic systems and related physics.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can discuss recent research topics in the field of electronic systems and related physics.
  2. Students can explain fundamental knowledge to understand recent research topics in the field of electronic systems and related physics.
  3. Students can write reports on the field of electronic systems and related physics according to professors’ instructions.

Class schedule

Class schedule HW assignments (Including preparation and review of the class.) Amount of Time Required
1. Introduction to this class.

Spoken language is the most fundamental communication method. We learn the basic mechanism of speech production and hearing, and we discuss the recent progress of the speech and language information processing systems and services.
(Prof. Mano)
Read the syllabus. 60minutes
Review recent speech and language interfaces in the Internet. 120minutes
2. Reporting on speech and language information processing.
(Prof. Mano)
Prepare your reports or homework according to the professor's instruction. 190minutes
3. A few industrial applications (micro/nano manufacturing, micro/nano operation, vibration control, etc.) of the advanced control theory will be introduced.
(Prof. Chen)
Study the definition of synchronization. 190minutes
4. Reporting on industrial applications of the advanced control theory.
(Prof. Chen)
Prepare your reports or homework according to the professor's instruction. 190minutes
5. Synchronization is an important nonlinear phenomenon. In this theme, some examples (synchronization is seen in the natural environment, in our body and in electric circuit) will be introduced, and students will learn its application for various fields.
(Assoc. Prof. Ioka)
Basic feedback knowledge is needed. 190minutes
6. Reporting on synchronization of nonlinear phenomena.
(Assoc. Prof. Ioka)
Prepare your reports or homework according to the professor's instruction. 190minutes
7. Black holes are now understood as a fundamental element in our universe. I will show how we know the existence of black holes which cannot be directly observed. Recent results on black holes based on X-ray observations will also be introduced.
(Prof. Kubota)
Review mechanics, especially the field of gravity like Newton’s law of gravitation. 190minutes
8. Reporting on Black holes.
(Prof. Kubota)
Prepare your reports or homework according to the professor's instruction. 190minutes
9. High energy astrophysics is reviewed based on X-ray, gamma-ray, and cosmic-ray observations. Students will acquire a basic understanding of the universe more than stars and empty space.
(Prof. Yoshida)
Review basic physics, especially the field of modern physics. 190minutes
10. Reporting on High energy astrophysics.
