Course description
Sensors and actuators are important components of mechatronics. Recently, their practical programming to systemize them effectively are required to realize “Embedded Control Systems” in many engineering fields. In this course, students learn 1) the simple embedded control systems, 2) practice programming techniques using of the Rensselaer Mechatronics Kit (https://homepages.rpi.edu/~hurstj2/) including an Arduino® as a micro controller, a DC motor, a set of sensors, and 3) how to operate popular software MATLAB® and SIMULINK®. Since the mathematical model itself does not show the students how the system behaves, it is effective to run experiments using the actual hardware, and then compare the both results.
Purpose of class
This course provides a basic knowledge of “Embedded Control Systems”, and their programing skill. Students learn about the control engineering through practical training using sensors and actuators.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can understand and master the sensor handling and actuator controls
  2. Students can acquire skills of the control CAD programming with Arduino
  3. Students can acquire skills of design of control algorithms on embedded systems using of MATLAB® /SIMULINK®
