Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering

HIJIKATA Katsuichirou

KABAYAMA Kenji
Course description
Except for space structures, all structures are located on the ground. The structure must withstand constant loads (own weight and load) and external forces due to natural phenomena (earthquake load, wind load, tsunami load, etc.), but these loads eventually reach the ground through the foundation structure. Reportedly. Therefore, the structure itself cannot be established unless the foundation and the ground have sufficient bearing capacity. In this sense, the foundation structure including the ground occupies an extremely important position in structural design. In this class, you will learn the basic concepts necessary for designing the foundation structure and the outline of the design method.
Purpose of class
The purpose of the class is to understand the basic concept such as "basic properties of soil", "stress in the ground", "consolidation of soil", "shear strength of soil", "liquefaction", and "earth pressure" necessary for designing foundation structures. In addition, you will learn the outline of the design method of direct foundation and pile foundation.
