Course content

In this course, the student will learn about Japanese culture and history from tourism point of view. The student will be able to obtain knowledge of culture and history of Japan and value of culture and history of other country by comparing their own cultural and historical conditions through comparative assignments and discussions. The selected topics are about Japanese culture and historical events which foreign people show more interests in and they will be introduced as tourism properties. The student is expected to prepare for class by completing reading assignments and preparing for the topics for group discussion. The student is required to demonstrate their knowledge that they have learned during the course through writing assignments. The student is also required to give a presentation on a topic related to Japanese culture and history that they have special interest in.

Purpose of class

Students will learn about unique points of Japanese culture and history from tourism point of view.

Goals and objectives

To obtain knowledge of Japanese culture and history as tourism resources.
To have a better understanding of one’s own culture by comparing with other cultures.
To develop presentation skills through discussion and class assignments.
