Building Production 1

SHIDE Kazuya
Course content
Japan's construction production system is expected to undergo major changes in the future, and students will gain a deeper understanding of three key concepts that are likely to become even more important: "ordering method," "facility management," and "public-private partnerships" through case studies and discussions. This course is positioned as an internship-related subject in that students will learn and think for themselves about the meaning of these concepts that they will likely encounter in their future work. It is deeply related to internships, and aims to improve students' ability to adapt to construction work after graduation.
*Must be taken in conjunction with Special Lecture on Construction Production 2. Students are not permitted to take only one of the two courses.
Purpose of class
Understanding the diversifying nature of construction projects through a deeper understanding of "public-private partnerships," "facility operations" and " procurement methods."
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand the series of processes: conception - planning - design - construction - operation and maintenance - demolition.
  2. Be able to take a holistic view and approach that includes social, economic and cultural perspectives in addition to engineering and technical perspectives.
  3. Understand the various methods related to production systems and their relationship to technology and economics.
