Special Lecture on Cell Physiology

YOSHIMURA Kenjiro
Course content
In recent years, the field of cell biology has made remarkable progress, and molecules, phenomena, and physiological mechanisms have been revealed in various research fields. Because abnormalities in the basic functions of cells are associated with diseases, the basic functions of cells are recognized to be important also from a medical perspective. This special lecture deals with signal transduction and functions of cell motility and cytoskeleton using sensory cells as examples. We will discuss that diverse biological functions are possible through the combination of universal mechanisms that are involved in many physiological phenomena and specific mechanisms that are used only for particular physiological phenomena.
Purpose of class
Understand cell signal transduction and the function of the cytoskeleton using specific examples such as sensory cells.
Goals and objectives
  1. I can explain the molecular mechanism of stimulus perception in cells
  2. I can explain the information transduction mechanism in cells
  3. I can explain the function of cytoskeleton and cell motility
