Course content
Innovation is an effort to create new value (products and services) through novel methods (technology and ideas) that lead to solving problems for society and customers. Protecting these novel methods and new value as intellectual property ensures innovation and leads to further innovation.
In this class, we will understand the basic concept of intellectual property as well as the legal system that protects intellectual property. We will then learn how intellectual property can support innovation and earn business consideration. We will then consider the use of intellectual property to advance innovation with concrete examples.
Purpose of class
Through this class, students will learn the basic concepts of intellectual property, understand the legal system that protects intellectual property rights, grasp the impact that intellectual property has on innovation and business strategy, and be able to consider ways to utilize intellectual property based on its social and economic role.
