Human robotics

OKU Takanori
Course content
Human intellectual activities, such as text processing and illustration, are increasingly being handled by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In contrast, everyday human sensorimotor activities, like picking up a dropped object or walking from home to school without colliding with others, remain challenging for current AI and robotics systems.
One reason for this challenge is that the human neural mechanisms underlying skilled movements are not yet fully understood. In this lecture, we will explore these mechanisms for controlling body movements and executing skilled motor tasks through a “human robotics” approach, which models human motor control as an integrated system of biomechanics and neural control.
Purpose of class
Through deepening the understanding of biomechanics and neural mechanisms related to human motor control, students will understand how to model human movement and how to analyze kinematic data and physiological data. Students will also learn about their applications to rehabilitation and robotics.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can understand the basic of human biomechanics
  2. Students can understand the basic of human neural mechanism underlying motor control
  3. Students can understand the basic of the methodology of the analysis of kinematic data and physiological data.
  4. Students can obtain the latest information in their research area through research papers
