Advanced Communication Design/Exercise 1

MANO Kazunori
Course content
We conduct research on media processing, including spoken language processing, media encoding, and communication methods, and on system design for comprehensive communication involving end-to-end human and information environments. Specifically, we investigate and research advanced information processing technologies for spoken language processing (speech analysis, recognition, synthesis, conversion, and dialogue), content generation and human interfaces using these technologies, and coding, retrieval, transmission systems, and quality evaluation of speech, acoustics, and multimedia. We also deal with basic signal processing, information and communication, cryptology, pattern recognition and machine learning, and system implementation technology using computer networks. The research theme can be either individual technological development or project research related to PBL subjects.
Goals and objectives
  1. You can explain a technical overview of one of the following areas: speech and language, media processing, coding, and communication methods.
  2. You can set up a problem concerning your research theme and solve it by yourself.
  3. You can communicate technically in research presentations and discussions with technical ethics as an engineer.
Language
Japanese(English accepted)
Class schedule
Based on their own themes, students will present and discuss the results of their research and surveys of important literature on information media, mainly speech, audio, language, and wireless and mobile transmission media, as well as on the underlying signal processing and coding technologies, their application systems, and their role in society.
Evaluation method and criteria
The total evaluation will be based on the following two components: (1) 50% for investigation, presentation, and discussion in exercises; (2) 50% for planning, execution, and reporting of experiments. Then, students can pass the course by obtaining 60 points or more of the total scores. Extra points will be awarded for at least one oral presentation at domestic or international conferences. The points will be evaluated based on the content.
