Course description
Students who completes this course will analyze free and forced vibrations of single degree of freedom (DOF) systems and will develop mathematical techniques to model mechanical systems.
Purpose of class
The objective for this course is for students to have a clear understanding of vibrations. Students will analyze free and forced vibrations of single degree of freedom system and will develop mathematical techniques to model mechanical systems. Topics include free vibration, forced vibration, natural frequency and resonance.
Goals and objectives
  1. To model mechanical systems and to apply principles of mechanical vibrations such as Newton’s second law to obtain their governing equations of motion
  2. To obtain the natural and damped frequency for the single degree of freedom system
  3. To obtain response of the single degree of freedom system to harmonic excitation
