Mechanics of Materials 2 (Advanced Mechanical Engineering Course)

KAMEO Yoshitaka
Course description
In Mechanics of Materials 2, lectures focus on "Torsion of Shaft," "Complicated Stresses," "Energy Methods," and "Buckling of Column" based on the lectures in Mechanics of Materials 1.
Purpose of class
Mechanics of materials is the study that gives mechanical methods for designing mechanical structures with sufficient strength, stiffness, and stability, and is one of the most important fundamental studies in the field of engineering. The objective of Mechanics of Materials 2 is to understand the relationship between internal forces and deformation of objects under various external forces and to master the analytical methods to obtain them through the study focusing on "Torsion of Shaft," "Complicated Stresses," "Energy Methods," and "Buckling of Column".
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to calculate the stress and strain of a shaft subjected to torsion.
  2. To understand three-dimensional stress state and be able to calculate its stress and strain components.
  3. To be able to calculate the deformation of objects based on the energy methods.
  4. To be able to calculate the buckling load of a column based on the Euler's equation.
