Environment and Chemistry

ARAI Tsuyoshi
Course description
We will study the relationship between the environment and materials based on high school chemistry and introduce the chemical knowledge of materials necessary for the development of materials that are in harmony with the environment.
Purpose of class
This course introduces chemical knowledge about the formation of the earth and mineral resources, and provides chemical explanations of the effects of materials on the global environment and material recycling technologies for material cycles.
Goals and objectives
  1. Acquire basic chemical skills in the formation of the earth and mineral resources, and be able to explain the properties and characteristics of materials from a chemical perspective.
  2. This course will enable participants to approach environmental issues through the properties of materials, identify problems, and propose methodologies to solve them.
  3. It is able to explain the principles and reactions of separation and recovery methods for metal resource recycling from a chemical viewpoint, and to propose simple separation and recovery processes.
