Course description
Inorganic materials, such as metals, catalysts, semiconductors, and ceramics, are essential to our modern society. A wide variety in properties of these materials has been achieved by the combination of the various elements listed in the periodic table, and eventually is explained by the nature of the elements. In this course, you will learn each elements from the electron configuration and understand the properties of the elements and typical compounds.
Purpose of class
This course will help you to understand the characteristics and properties of the elements, which are appeared in the periodic table. You also learn the specific reaction and related compounds, for the purpose of better understanding of the various elements.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will be able to predict the properties of major elements from their electronic structures.
  2. Students will be able to acquire the knowledge about the nature and characteristics of the elements and related compounds.
  3. Students will be able to estimate the physical and chemical properties of compounds on the basis of electron configuration and chemical structure of elements.

Evaluation method and criteria
·The credit requires over 60 points of total scores on the examinations of which include the topics of "goals and the objectives".
·The scores for the midterm and final exams are 30 and 70 points, respectively.
·Midterm and term examinations may be changed to reports with related content.
·The date of the midterm exam may be changed depending on the progress of the lecture.
·Quizzes are conducted in the lectures. The results of the quizzes may used to be considered in the evaluation.
