Course description

Radio waves (electromagnetic waves) are used in various fields, such as the transmission of a wide variety of information including images and sound, measurement of the position, distance, and speed of objects, heating and cooking of food, and medical care. Students learn how radio waves are emitted into the air, transmitted through the air, and received, the principle of how radio waves depart from a transmitter and reach a receiver, and understand the mechanism of radio equipment that makes this possible.

Purpose of class

Students will have a good understanding of how radio waves transmit and receive.

Goals and objectives

Students will be able to expand on the basic knowledge learned in electromagnetics to explain the theory of radio propagation (lesson plans 1, 4, and 5).
Students will be able to explain transmission lines (lesson plans 2 and 3).
Students will be able to describe the shape of the antenna and its characteristics (lesson plans 8-10).
Students will be able to describe radio propagation in space (lesson plans 11 and 12).

Evaluation method and criteria

【Evaluation Method】Worksheets 10%, Midterm Exam 45%, Final Exam 45%, with a passing grade being 60 points out of the total. Both midterm and final exams will be conducted without reference materials. To be eligible for evaluation, attendance of at least two-thirds of the class sessions is required. Tardiness of 30 minutes or more will be considered an absence.

【Evaluation Criteria】A passing score (60 points) will be based on a generally correct understanding of the principles of radio wave emission and the role of antennas.
