Information Literacy

TROVATO GABRIELE
Course description
Computers are essential part of engineers' activities and it is important to understand their way of working and how they process information.
Thus, this course aims at providing the required knowledge to understand the basic principles of information and computers; this lecture will introduce concepts of Information Theory, as well as go through an overview of all aspects of computer architecture and operating systems.
Purpose of class
The objectives of this class is to make students become familiar with information, and with computers and their way of working: from the low-level (bits) to the hardware architecture.

Evaluation method and criteria
Evaluation method: exam (50%), group work (30%), participation (20%)
Criteria: at least 60% of total evaluation is required to pass.

The main exam consists in a quiz (true/false questions) and is individual. The score is integrated by a group work, which is presented in the last weeks.
Active participation in class is also counted as a bonus.
