Seminar on Mathematical Sciences Fundamentals1
This course provides an introductory seminar on mathematical sciences. Each student is assigned to one of the faculty member's
laboratories and receives small-group education from the faculty member in charge. The objective is to acquire basic knowledge
and basic argumentation methods common to all areas related to mathematics, as well as to be exposed to some aspects of research
in each laboratory. Activities in each laboratory will be conducted in accordance with the research field of the laboratory
to which the student is assigned. The method of exercises also varies according to the teaching policy of each faculty member,
such as rotating lectures, simulation exercises, programming practices, and so on. Finally, a presentation of the results
of the activities will be held. In addition, students are required to prepare and submit a final report under the guidance
of each faculty member. (The final presentation and submission of the final report may or may not be required, depending
on the laboratory.)
The purpose of this course is to provide students with basic knowledge common to the field of mathematics, and to give them
a clues for their future research in mathematics by exposing them to some of the research being conducted in the laboratory.
- To learn the basic knowledge necessary for university mathematics, and to be able to discuss appropriately based on this knowledge.
- To be able to give appropriate presentations in mathematical sciences.
- To have an academic perspective on mathematical research by being exposed to some of the activities of each laboratory.

The overall evaluation will be based on the presentations in the seminar, the submitted materials, and the presentation at
the final presentation, and so on. A student will receive a pass (60 points or more) when it is judged that 60% of the achievement
target has been achieved.
