Course description
The first half of this course concerns the geometry of curves and surfaces in three-dimensional space. The second half of this course concerns topological spaces.
Purpose of class
This course is intended to be a precursor to the geometry and topology of manifolds.
Goals and objectives
  1. A successful student will be able to explain and to compute the curvature of a plane curve.
  2. A successful student will be able to explain and to compute the curvature of a surfaces.
  3. A successful student will be able to explain the terminology related to a topological space, such as open sets, Hausdorff, compact, connected.
