授業の概要

The aim of the course will be to develop confidence in speaking before an audience.
The course will build on and extend to some extent the principles covered in Public Speaking 1. However, students joining for the first time in the autumn should not feel the standard significantly higher. Basics will be reviewed e.g., gesture, intonation, stress together with the differences between formal and informal styles.

1.The students will be able to make reasonably confident speeches/ presentations in English.
2.They will learn how to make their speeches comprehensible, audible and appropriate.

1.Course introduction: expectations, content.
2.Review of principles ( Public Speaking 1): co-ordination of voice and gesture.
3.Review of principles ( Public Speaking 1): audience involvement, eye contact, facial expression, responding to audience mood.
4.Confidence building practice speech. A simple ‘ How to...’ speech
5.Structure of a presentation
6.Structure of a presentation continued.
7.Choose, prepare and practice a short presentation.
8.Mid- term presentation.
9.Visual aids.
10.Using/ explaining numerical and graphical information.
11.Designing research.
12.Phonetic work: sentence stress, word stress and intonation.
13.Preparation and practice for final presentation.
14.Final presentations.
15.Final presentations.

評価方法と基準

Participation 30%
Mid-term presentation 30%
Final presentation 40%
総合得点率が６０％以上を合格とする
