The purpose of this course is to learn the basic theory of Soil mechanics. The consolidation and shear strength are learned
in this course.

- Students understand the use of elastic theory for estimating stresses under ground.
- Students understand the theory of consolidation
- Students understand the method for evaluating the settlement and duration of clay layers by using the theory of consolidation
