Course content
In undergraduate course, we learned various organic reactions on the basis of Electronic Theory of Organic Chemistry. This theory is very useful to understand polar reactions, while this is not available in non-polar reactions such as peri-cyclic reaction. This course is explanation of non-polar reactions on the basis of Molecular Orbital Theory. In addition, aromaticity, anomeric effect and gauche effect will be explained by using MO Theory.
Purpose of class
Construction of π-molecular orbitals in various conjugated π-electron compounds, and understanding of various chemical reactions and structural property of organic compounds through MO theory
Goals and objectives
  1. Construction of π-molecular orbitals in various conjugated π-electron compounds．
  2. Understanding of selectivity and reactivity in peri-cyclic reactions by Woodword-Hoffmann rule.
  3. Understanding of chemical characterization in various conjugated π-electron compounds by Molecular Orbital Theory．
  4. Understanding of polar reaction by Molecular Orbital Theory
  5. Understanding of anomer and gauche effects by Molecular Orbital Theory
