Students will study actual cases of natural disasters and other catastrophes in recent years, as well as regional decline
due to social changes, in each lecture, while learning about the issues facing society and attempts at revitalization and
reconstruction. The students will then deepen their understanding of these issues through research, which will serve as preliminary
study for the seminar courses.
The theme of this course is ”the destruction of towns and houses by catastrophes (earthquakes, floods, cliff slides, terrorism,
wars, etc.) and the attempts to regenerate and rebuild from them. Students will learn about the process of rebuilding towns
and lifestyles through various ongoing case studies and acquire cutting-edge knowledge. The lectures will also serve as preparatory
studies for the ”Domestic Projects” and ”Architecture Studio Practice” courses in the following semester.
