To understand the various social issues surrounding architecture, and to learn knowledge and techniques related to universal
design and sustainable design, which are essential for the future of architecture.
We will learn about the problems of the declining population, falling birthrates, and an aging society, which continue to
grow serious in Japan, and how society should respond, as well as how to create and use the environment and architecture,
from both software and hardware perspectives, using examples from Japan and abroad. In the first half of the course, the theme
is ”Universal Design” from the occupant’s point of view, and in the second half, the theme is ”Sustainable Design” from the
architectural point of view, with ”Universality ” and ” Longevity ” as keywords. By the end, students will make presentations
on solutions to problems using what they learned through the course.
- Be able to explain the social problems that architecture will face in the future from the aspects of demographics and the
environment.
- Understand the concept of architecture that can be used by anyone and how to apply it to design.
- Understand the concept of architecture that can be used for a long time and how to apply it to design.
