Intensive Workshop

SAKAI Naomichi
Purpose of class
This course enables students to understand studies in other fields and to explain how their own research contributes to society through class presentations and discussions.
Course content
In this class, students will give presentations on their research interests, the content of their ongoing research, and how their research contributes to society in a way that can be understood by students from other fields. Each presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion among the students. In addition, a special lecture on cutting-edge technologies will be delivered by an engineer. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion, through which students will learn about the latest technologies and presentation techniques. (This component may not be offered depending on the number of enrolled students.). In principle, classes will be held online via Zoom.
However, an off-campus, face-to-face class will be conducted on the afternoon of October 30 as the Week 6 class. As this day is designated as a preparation day for the SIT Student Festival, there will be no regular classes. On this day, students will board the training ship Shioji-maru (approximately 60 meters in length) of the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT). Through this experience, students will learn about ship structures and observe maritime traffic and port (bay) business activities from the sea, while interacting with other students face-to-face.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will be able to explain how you can comprehensibly explain your own research study to students of other fields.
  2. Students will be able to explain how your own study contributes to the society
  3. Students will learn and be able to express their own opinions on technologies, issues and research methods in different fields.
