1 Educational Development of Higher Education /Exercise 1
This course focuses on scholarly research regarding higher education systems, faculty and staff development (FD/SD), and university
academic management.
Students will engage in systematic information gathering, extensive literature reviews, and logical analysis to develop their
specific research themes within these fields.
- Students will be able to conduct logical and critical analysis of higher education systems and academic management.
- Students will be able to perform comprehensive data collection and literature surveys relevant to faculty and staff development.
- Students will be able to synthesize research findings into a formal thesis or report and deliver professional oral presentations.

The course progresses through a combination of periodic progress reports and the development of the Master’s thesis.
Research Design: Identifying Research Questions (RQ) and conducting preliminary literature reviews.
Regular Reporting Sessions: Presentation of ongoing research progress and group discussions.
Thesis Development: Drafting, revising, and finalizing the Master’s thesis based on collected data and theoretical frameworks.
Evaluation method and criteria
Assessment is based on the following criteria (Passing grade: 60% or higher):
Progress Reports 30% (Content and quality of presentations during regular meetings)
Master’s Thesis 70% (Final quality, rigor, and completeness of the research)
Feedback on exams, assignments, etc.

Textbooks and reference materials
Selected research papers and reference books specifically related to each student’s chosen research theme.
Students are expected to familiarize themselves with basic concepts of higher education development and review relevant reports/recommendations
from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
