1 Electronic circuit engineering / Exercise 1
Students engage in cutting-edge research topics in the laboratories of “Electromechanical Systems Research,” “Image Sensing
Research,” “Advanced Integrated Circuit Systems Research,” and “Image Processing and Robotics Research,” all of which belong
to the “Electronic Circuits Research Division.” Through “problem definition,” “research planning,” and “evaluation of methods
and discussion of results,” they acquire and develop the ability to “gain specialized knowledge” and “apply that specialized
knowledge.”
Students are assigned to the laboratories of “Electromechanical Systems Research,” “Image Sensing Research,” “Advanced Integrated
Circuit Systems Research,” and “Image Processing and Robotics Research,” which belong to the “Electronic Circuits Research
Division,” where they develop state-of-the-art technical expertise and practical application skills in their respective fields.
- Be able to acquire, understand, and apply the specialized knowledge required for research.
- Be able to understand the research background; define the problems to be solved; examine approaches to solving them; and develop
a research plan.
- Be able to evaluate methods related to sensors and actuators, integrated circuits, or image processing, and discuss the results
based on their evaluations.

Electromechanical Systems Research: Students acquire knowledge of systems using sensors and actuators and apply it to the
assigned research theme.
Advanced Integrated Circuit Research: Students acquire knowledge related to advanced integrated circuits and apply it to the
assigned research theme.
Image Processing and Robotics Research: Students learn system design using cameras and ultra-compact computers such as Raspberry
Pi, and apply this knowledge to a theme planned by themselves.
Image Sensing: Students acquire knowledge on information acquisition using images and apply it to the assigned research theme.
Evaluation method and criteria
[Assessment Method] Students are assessed based on their contributions to regular in-lab reading seminars and the content
of their reports in research presentation meetings. A total score of 60 points or higher is required to pass.
[Assessment Criteria] A total score of 60 points indicates a level at which students can carry out research according to a
self-established schedule, solve the given problems, and acquire the ability to report their work to others.
