Telecommunication Networks/ Exercise 1

MORINO Hiroaki
Purpose of class
This course aims to enhance problem-identification and problem-solving abilities of enrolled students as well as their presentation and discussion skills in their expertise.
This is achieved by the enrolled students executing the entire process of academic research —from setting the master's thesis topic and conducting research to writing the thesi while receiving guidance from the supervising professor.
Course content
Today, mobile terminals spread to each person, and further the number of connected terminals will explosively increase in the forthcoming IoT (Internet of Things) era . Based on these circumstances, we envision how the next generation information and communication networks should be, and study on specific research topics such as :

* The architecture of the next generation access networks and core networks,
* New communication technology that provide users with an intelligent environment (Ambient Intelligence) including context-awareness
* Network resource allocation method considering users’ satisfaction
* Potential for realizing communication services with transfer security system

Basic knowledge in information-communication engineering, teletraffic theory, network theory etc. will be indispensable.
Goals and objectives
  1. Enrolled students are able to deepen understanding of current networking technology, choose research fields, and find issues through surveying substantial amount of related literature
  2. Enrolled students are able to propose a new technical scheme to solve issues of target research fields
  3. Enrolled students are able to conduct numerical evaluation of the proposed scheme to clarify its benefits

Class schedule
Today, mobile terminals such as smartphones spread at a rate of at least 1 person per person. Furthermore, it is expected that the number of connected terminals will explosively increase with the emergence of IoT (Internet of Things), and the information and communication services are becoming sophisticated and complicated. Based on these circumstances, this course envisions architectures of the next generation access networks and core networks, new information and communication services providing users with an intelligent environment (Ambient Intelligence), and user satisfaction. Also, we will investigate the resource allocation method of the new network.
Evaluation method and criteria
Students will be evaluated according to the progress of their respective research. As students will consult with the instructor regarding their research every week, they are required to make progress reports.
