Purpose of class
Course content
Students conduct independent research within the field of programming languages. Currently, many research projects focus on the development and evaluation of programming tools. Students are expected to systematically advance their research through literature surveys, system implementation, and experimental validation.
Throughout the course, students will engage in the following research activities:
- Research Meetings: Regular attendance and presentations to report progress.
- Literature Review: Surveying and analyzing related work to define the research's position in the field.
- Problem Formulation: Establishing a clear research background, motivation, and objectives.
- System Development: Designing and implementing proposed systems or languages.
- Evaluation: Conducting experiments and analyzing data to verify research effectiveness.
- Dissemination: Presenting research findings at workshops and conferences.
- Thesis Writing: Drafting and refining components of the Master’s thesis.

Evaluation method and criteria
Evaluation is based on a total of 100 points. Meeting presentations and written components of the master’s thesis (such as related work) are evaluated on an 80-point scale, while workshop presentations and journal submissions account for the remaining 20 points. Consistent attendance and completion of assigned presentations ensure a minimum score of 60.
