The various environmental issues we currently face are occurring on a global scale, and there is no clear answer as to what
measures we should take. Therefore, the academic fields dealing with the environment are diverse, and their approaches differ.
This course aims to understand what the environment fundamentally is, as well as the many environmental issues that have occurred
in the past and are currently ongoing.
1) Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary field. Therefore, this course does not focus on specific environmental issues
or approaches, but broadly covers topics such as air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination, and global warming, explaining
their causes and the countermeasures that have been taken. While no specific prerequisites are required for this course, students
should ensure they thoroughly study subjects they find challenging.
2) The lecture may not always follow the syllabus exactly depending on the content.
3) Due to unforeseen circumstances, in-person lectures may be changed to online lectures. In such cases, notification will
be provided via ScombZ.

Evaluation method and criteria
1) Grades will be determined based on the final exam (70%) and the submission of quizzes administered via ScombZ each week,
along with lecture attendance (30%).
2) Attendance is a prerequisite for receiving a grade. Achieving goals and objectives 1 and 2 will result in a passing grade,
and achieving goals and objectives 3 sufficiently will result in an Grade A or higher.
3) Both the submission of the quiz on ScombZ and attendance at the lecture will be verified to count as “attendance” for that
day.
4) The evaluation method may be changed depending on the number of enrolled students.

Textbooks and reference materials
1) Handouts will be distributed each time. Reference books will be introduced as appropriate.
2) Lecture materials will be uploaded to ScombZ by the day before each lecture. Please download them to your device or print
them out and bring them to class. If printing, black and white is acceptable.
Office hours and How to contact professors for questions
- As a part-time lecturer, I do not hold office hours. Questions regarding lectures should generally be submitted via email
so that the content of inquiries can be recorded.
- When sending emails, use the SIT Gmail account assigned to you. Do not send emails from your personal email address.
- Summarize the key points of your questions or inquiries to avoid multiple back-and-forth exchanges. Additionally, submit all
forms by attaching either a photographed image file or a scanned PDF file to your email.
