Purpose of class
This exercise-based class aims to identify latent user needs, such as attractiveness and value, by observing, collecting, organizing, and analyzing various design subjects. Throughout the course, students will create prototypes, refine them through repeated iterations, and ultimately develop a final design proposal.
Course description
As various technologies continue to advance and societal needs become increasingly diverse and complex, users seek products and experiences with high contextual value—those that genuinely enrich their actions and lived experiences. Consequently, designers and engineers are expected not only to develop tangible products but also to envision compelling intangible experiences.

In this exercise-based class, students will explore what kinds of design are genuinely valued by people, how value can be defined for intangible aspects, and what types of solutions can be envisioned for given problems. By approaching design from perspectives unconstrained by existing notions or assumptions, students will develop the ability to think broadly and creatively about design.

  1. Able to understand problems and requirements from multiple perspectives and develop appropriate design concepts.
  2. Able to create compelling design proposals by repeatedly prototyping and refining ideas.
  3. Able to deliver presentations that effectively convey the attractiveness of the proposed design.

Evaluation method and criteria
・Evaluation is based on the submissions for each of the tasks assigned within the exercise.
・Each assignment is graded on 11 levels: S, A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D.
・Grades will be determined based on a standard of C (60 points) for all assignments.
