The purpose of this course is to cultivate problem-solving skills by having students independently set socially relevant research
themes and work toward their solutions, and to acquire the ability to appropriately organize and present designs, creative
works, and academic papers.
Students will define research themes in various fields related to design engineering and engage in research under the guidance
of faculty members in their respective specialties. By integrating the knowledge acquired in courses completed up to the third
year and applying it to the resolution of research problems, students will develop problem-solving skills and learn how to
compile and present designs, creative works, and academic papers.
To achieve the educational objectives of this course, research activities equivalent to class hours—such as laboratory seminars,
progress presentations, and research supervision—will be conducted for six class periods per week over a 14-week semester.
In addition, students are expected to engage in substantial independent study outside of scheduled class hours.
- To be able to identify issues in fields related to design engineering and formulate research themes.
- To be able to collect, organize, and analyze information necessary for conducting research, and to develop research plans.
- To be able to demonstrate problem-solving abilities in conducting research, and to compile academic papers, designs, or creative
works using design and aesthetic skills.
- To be able to explain the outcomes of academic papers, designs, or creative works and respond appropriately in discussions.
