The purpose of this class is to acquire analysis methods of transient response for electric circuits consist of R, L, and
C, and to acquire analysis methods of voltage and current for the transmission lines such as power lines and communication
wires.
In this course, students will learn the transient phenomena and the distributed element circuit.
(1) Transient phenomena:
In the electrical circuits, the waveforms of power supply are drastically changed from steady state. The voltage and current of circuit element is also changed by switching. These phenomena are called ”transient response”. The transient response is closely related to the initial state just before changes. In this class, the transient response for the circuits consist of R, L, and C will be analyzed by using differential equations.
(2) Distributed element circuit:
Electric circuits are basically analyzed as lumped element circuits, although the circuit elements do not have dimensions, but exist as a point in the space. However, the circuit elements such as R, L, and C have to be handled as the distributed element circuits, in which the circuit elements are spatially distributed, when the frequency of signal is very high and wavelength is shorter than the dimensions of electric circuit. In this class, voltage and current for the transmission lines such as power lines and communication wires will be analyzed.

･Be able to explain the behavior of distributed element circuits that have voltage and current reflections.
･Be able to explain the concept of resonance and standing wave for the transmission lines.

The achievement of this course is evaluated by 12 small reports (40%), intermediate exam (30%), and term-end exam (30%).
Students will pass this course by obtaining total score of 60 or higher.
