Purpose of class
The purpose of this class is to understand the particle and wave nature of electrons, the statistics of gas molecules and electrons, and their differences, and to understand structures of solids and behavior of electrons in a solid.
Course description
In this class, students will learn the basic contents of solid state physics such as behavior of electrons and structures of atoms and molecules, and improve their understandings in terms of the particle and wave nature of electrons. Students will also learn the statistics of gas molecules and electrons, and their differences. Furthermore, students will learn structures of solids and behavior of electrons in a solid.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to qualitatively explain the nature of electrons.
  2. To be able to qualitatively explain the structures of atoms and molecules.
  3. To be able to explain the differences between classical statistics and quantum statistics.
  4. To be able to qualitatively explain the behavior of electrons in a solid and energy band structures.
