Teaching Method of General Science 2

OKUDA Hiroshi
Course description
Building upon the content of ”Methods of Teaching Science 1,” this course provides an overview of the fundamentals of observations and experiments, the proper use of laboratory equipment and instruments, experimental safety and precautions, and the utilization of external educational institutions. Furthermore, students will engage in practical training, including the creation of lesson plans, advanced microteaching sessions aimed at fostering scientific thinking and expression, and hands-on experiences at museums and science centers. This course aims to cultivate a foundation for science instruction involving experiments and practical work, while further enhancing teaching capabilities in the subject.
Purpose of class
The objective of this course is to understand the goals, content, and methods of science education, and to acquire the essential qualities and abilities required of junior and senior high school science teachers. This is achieved through instruction in observations and experiments, advanced microteaching sessions, and practical training at external educational institutions.
Goals and objectives
  1. Explain instructional precautions and the proper handling of apparatus and instruments required for lessons involving observations and experiments.
  2. Conduct microteaching sessions within the designated time frame, aimed at fostering scientific thinking and expression based on the National Curriculum Standards.
  3. Develop learning programs and instructional plans based on practical training experienced at museums and science centers.
  4. Evaluate microteaching sessions using the assessment methods learned in the lectures.
  5. Self-analyze the microteaching sessions conducted during the course and describe points for improvement.
