Purpose of class
To develop an understanding of the fundamentals in polymer chemistry covering:
1. The synthesis and characterisation of polymers
2. The relation between chemical structure, polymer morphology and physico-chemical properties
3. Methods for characterising and analysing polymers.
Course description
The course is divided into 5 parts:
1. Introduction of polymer (classification and systematics of synthetic polymers and biopolymers)
2. Polymer synthesis: polymerisation, kinetics, etc.
3. Polymer morphology and physico-chemical properties
4. Basic characterization and analysis of solid polymers and polymers in solution.
5. Application of various polymers

The lecture for this course will be conducted through face to face manner.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can explain about fundamental of polymers, their synthesis and reaction mechanisms.
  2. Students can interpret polymer behaviors and properties in the solid and solution state; as well as characterization techniques commonly used in polymer science.
  3. Students can implement and give examples of the practical utilization of polymers and polymer technology.
