Purpose of class
The objectives of this class is to make students become familiar with information, and with computers and their way of working: from the low-level (bits) to the hardware architecture.
Course description
Computers are essential part of engineers’ activities and it is important to understand their way of working and how they process information.
Thus, this course aims at providing the required knowledge to understand the basic principles of information and computers; this lecture will introduce concepts of Information Theory, as well as go through an overview of all aspects of computer architecture and operating systems.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students can explain the concepts of representation of information
  2. Students can explain the way computers work and their architecture
